It’s hard not to get excited about this one.
Atalanta have been, for my money, the team to watch in the past couple of years if you’re after entertainment. Gian Piero Gasperini has worked wonders at the club and their enterprising, gung-ho approach has meant they have qualified for this competition for two years running now.
The 3-4-3 system implemented by Gasperini has a real emphasis on getting shots off and that’s been no different this season. Defensively they can be got at though, it’s just whether or not their opponents are brave enough to get at their back line and potentially leave their own defence exposed to the likes of Alejandro Gomez, Duvan Zapata, Josip Illicic and co.
Liverpool with their high press and willingness to try win the ball back up the pitch should mean this is an exciting match up and one where you’d expect plenty of goals. Naturally the goal line is quite high here at 3.5 so the way in may be to head to the Request-A–Bet market.
Getting involved with the corner market could be of interest. Given the likelihood of plenty of efforts at goal there’s should be a few corners. Liverpool have hit 9,7,1,5,7 and 11 corners in their league games this season whilst Atalanta have hit 3 or more in all but one of their games this campaign.
Romanian Ovidiu Hategan has the whistle here and he gave 5 cards last time out in the Atletico Madrid vs Salzburg game. He likes a card as it is with him averaging 5.28 cautions per game over his career.
We can get even-money on Each Team 1+ Corner in each half, Each Team 10+ Booking Points with SkyBet and that looks a big price. It’s as short as 4/6 elsewhere.
I’ll also dip into the props market on Bet365. They go 4/5 that Argentinian Alejandro Gomez registers a shot on-target and against a Liverpool defence without Virgil Van Dijk I think that’s a great price. He’s averaging 4 shots per-game in Serie A this season and 1.7 on target per-game.
‘Papu' also averaged over 1 shot on-target in every season at the Bergamo club from 2016. He’s much shorter elsewhere, 2/5 in places so the 4/5 looks too good to turn down.
Best Bets
Atalanta vs Liverpool – Each Team 1+ Corner in each half, Each Team 10+ Booking Points (1/1 SkyBet)
Atalanta vs Liverpool – Alejandro Gomez over 0.5 Shots On-Target (4/5 Bet365)
