SPURS welcome Asteras Tripolis to White Hart Lane, looking to get their Europa League campaign back up to speed. Mark O’Haire (@MarkOHaire) has a look at the best bets…
Tottenham v Asteras Tripolis | 20.05 | ITV 4
Spurs have been chalked up as 1/3 shots to collect their first victory in Group C of the Europa League. Having suffered just three defeats in 29 outings in Europe’s secondary competition, it looks a fair price.
But the Londoners have collected just two wins in their last nine outings and with Maurcio Pochettino still apparently bedding in and form patchy, it’s best to look elsewhere for a more attractive bet.
Asteras shouldn’t be written off either. The Greek side are unlikely to roll over and have already seen off Mainz and Macabi Tel-Aviv in a campaign that began way back in July. And in Group C, they’ve already held Besiktas away and taken maximum points off Partizan Belgrade.
However, the Greeks have never won on the road in Europe (D4 L3) and it’s difficult to see that record ending on Thursday. For all Spurs’ faults they have won 10 of their last 14 European games at White Hart Lane, suffering the one defeat.
So I’m instead, I’m drawn to the Both Teams To Score market with Bet365 offering 6/5. Spurs have kept just two clean sheets in their past nine matches and have leaked goals in three of their last four at the Lane. What’s more, they’ve only managed one clean sheet in six home European clashes.
Asteras arrive in London on a six-game unbeaten streak and have scored in 11 consecutive fixtures, only failing to net once in 15 this season. With Pochettino likely to ring the changes, take a chance on Both Teams Scoring.
