THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE continues on Wednesday night. Daniel McCulloch (@DMcCulloch1984) analyses the odds as Genk host Liverpool.
Genk v Liverpool | Wednesday 23rd October 2019, 20:00 | BT Sport
Liverpool travel to Genk on Wednesday night knowing that this is a game that they really need to win here if they don’t want to make qualification from their Champions League a nail-biting affair.
To date, they’ve lost away to Napoli and beaten Red Bull Salzburg 4-3 having squandered a three goal lead. While Genk look like the groups whipping boys, they did secure a 0-0 draw at home to Napoli so this won’t be a walkover for Liverpool.
I have watched Liverpool a few times this season and they simply don’t look as fluent as they did last term. Although they have managed eight wins and a single draw in their nine Premier League games to date, they were certainly below their best against away to Southampton, Sheffield United, Chelsea and Manchester United. Still, they did win three of those four fixtures, each by a single goal and that is the angle I like here.
Liverpool to win by one goal is 3/1 with SkyBet and given that it has been victorious in five of their 11 games across the Premier League and Champions League this season (and four of their six away matches), I believe it is good value. A 2-1 away victory is also worth a few pennies but I will stick to the winning margin market as my core recommendation.
