TOTTENHAM welcome Newcastle to White Hart Lane on Super Sunday. Daniel McCulloch (@DMcCulloch1984) delivers his best bet verdict.
Tottenham v Newcastle | Sunday 25th August 2019, 16:30 | Sky Sports
I can’t have been the only person thinking that Jonjo Shelvey could well be the answer to ‘Who scored the only goal during Steve Bruce’s Newcastle reign’ question when the midfielder fired in a 93rd minute consolation against Norwich last weekend.
That goal cost this column a winner but I am happy to oppose the North East side once again when they travel to North London to face Tottenham.
Despite securing a 2-2 draw at Manchester City last weekend, Tottenham were altogether second best and certainly had the better end of the VAR decisions in that game. However, they are generally strong at home – winning 12 of their 19 matches at Wembley and West Hart Lane last season – and I cannot see this Newcastle side troubling them.
My safe bet is Tottenham to win and Under 3.5 Goals to be scored, which is available at 11/10 with Boylesports. I expect Steve Bruce to set his side up pretty defensively – in much the same way that Rafa Benitez would – but ultimately expect Tottenham to prevail. However, I also like the look of the 13/2 on a 1-0 Tottenham victory.
While Newcastle did concede three goals at Norwich last weekend, there were a couple of excellent strikes from Teemu Pukki and I don’t think they are that bad at the back. The Geordies have lost by a single goal on their previous two away matches against Tottenham and I don’t expect them to be hammered here.
Tottenham have won eight of their previous 38 home matches by this scoreline, including seven of their 28 against sides outside of the top six so overall I think this bet offers excellent value.
Best Bets
Tottenham v Newcastle – Tottenham to win and Under 3.5 Goals (11/10 Boylesports)
Tottenham v Newcastle – Tottenham to win 1-0 (13/2 Bet365)
