Ben’s Saturday’s Specials – Defensive duo could get on the scoresheet

FOOTBALL analyst Ben Levene (@benlevene96) delivers his best bets from Saturday's 3pm kick-offs in his new specials feature.

I’ve been toying around with the goalscorer markets for a few weeks now, and so that’s where I’ve turned to find two longshots for this Saturday’s action. I’m happy to back in the first-goalscorer market given the generous each-way terms.

Stevenage v Cambridge | Saturday 1st September, 15:00

Cambridge have conceded three headed goals so far this season with no League Two side allowing more headers at goal than The U’s.

They’ve also allowed the highest expected goals against from corners in England this season. Cambridge are clearly vulnerable from set-pieces and that’s an angle from which we can profit.

Step forwards Scott Cuthbert. The Stevenage centre-back has had 5 headers at goal so far this season.

The 6”2 veteran defender has won 75% of his aerial duels this campaign, a tally bettered by only George Taft of Cambridge.

He’s 35/1 (Betfair) to score first and looks a good bet given Cambridge’s defensive woes.

Grimsby v Yeovil | Saturday 1st September, 15:00

The only defender to rack up more headed attempts than Cuthbert this season, is Omar Sowunmi of Yeovil.

In fact, no League Two player has had more headers at goal than the 6”6 man-mountain. The 22-year-old ranked similarly last season and has already scored five times in 73 games for Yeovil.

Left-back Carl Dickinson has created a goal from a set-piece this season and given Sowunmi is the target, I like the 30/1 (Betfair) about him opening the scoring.

Sowunmi has caused havoc in each of the last two weeks, having two attempts in each of those. He was close to scoring in both those games and this could be the week he finally bags.

Best Bets

Stevenage v Cambridge – Scott Cuthbert first-goalscorer (35/1 each-way Betfair)

Grimsby v Yeovil – Omar Sowunmi first-goalscorer (30/1 each-way Betfair)
