GAVIN HORSFALL’S (@GHorsfall) Notebook has enjoyed a fabulous 2015. Can he start the New Year in style?

Crewe v Coventry | Saturday 15.00

Just about keeping our heads above water over the Christmas period as Luke Berry (7/2) ignited a Cambridge comeback against Barnet while Dave Winfield (14/1) popped up again if you kept faith with the Anytime Extra piece I penned a week ago.

Onto Saturday…

Coventry's set piece woes continued with another opposition free-kick finding it's target when Lee Novak put Chesterfield into a 1-0 lead on Monday – it was a similar story at home to Oldham, and at Sheffield Utd previous to that – the absence of Reda Johnson and Ben Turner, plus a keeper on a poor run of form, all possible contributory factors.

Crewe will be smarting from conceding a last-minute goal at home to Shrewsbury last time out but it was another game where loan defender Semi Ajayi (16/1 Bet365) managed a header on-target from a David Fox corner. The 6'4″ Cardiff defender is due back at his parent club following Saturday's game.

Scunthorpe v Wigan | Saturday 15.00

Wigan's Andy Kellet (9/1 Bet365) was made to watch on from the sidelines for most of the season after Reece James made the left wing-back position his own but an advanced midfield role in the last two games has seen him score twice and he's a decent price to continue that this weekend at Scunthorpe.

Kellet got ahead of Will Grigg on several occasions at Barnsley and can help continue Wigan's good run over a tough set of away days throughout the festive period.

Newport v Hartlepool | Saturday 15.00

This all feels a bit speculative so far so looking to those at shorter prices, Scott Boden (2/1 BetVictor) is in great form for John Sheridan's improving Newport side. who recovered from playing with 10 men against Barnet to compete well with Plymouth.

A home game against Hartlepool should provide an easier test for the 26 year-old, who has three in five games.

Bolton v Huddersfield | Saturday 15.00

Huddersfield front-man Nakhi Wells (9/4 Ladbrokes) has scored four in six in December and will look to continue Huddersfield's attacking intent when they head to bottom club Bolton.
