Europa League semi final first leg action as Shakhtar Donetsk will look to erase the memory of a fateful defeat from 2007 as they welcome holders Sevilla. The Pitmen come into this game unbeaten in six UEFA Europa League games.
Juande Ramos's Sevilla overcame Shakhtar in dramatic fashion in the round of 16 en route to winning the 2006/07 UEFA Cup. After a 2-2 draw in Spain, Sevilla goalkeeper Andrés Palop scored at the death to make it 2-2 in the return leg, Ernesto Chevantón winning it for the visitors in extra time.
Those two games are the only tangible head to head results and had cards of seven and five in them. Ok, it was a long time ago but it does give some sense of what might be expected tonight in a high stakes encounter.
Polish ref, Szymon Marciniak is in charge of this one. He has been generally lenient in European games at the group stage at least this term. However, in more meaningful matches he does give more cards as evidenced when officiating Shaktar v Rapid Vienna in the Champions League final qualifying game when he issued eight cards.
