League Of Ireland Tips | Dundalk v Finn Harps | 11th March 2016

A successful start to Dylan O'Neill's (@Dylanoneill_95) League Of Ireland career for us. He's back with a Friday night bet here.

Dundalk v Finn Harps | Friday 19:45

We started last week with an easy win on the main bet and this week I'm looking to keep that run going siding with what should be a comfortable Dundalk win against Finn Harps.

Dundalk kicked off their defence of the title with a comfortable 3-1 away win against a revamped Bray squad. While I was on the wrong bet last week this week I'm siding with Dundalk to potentially run riot this Friday.

Having lost talisman Richie Towell over the winter (top scorer in the league with 25 goals) many speculated whether or not they'd struggle to repeat their impressive goal scoring form from last season.

In adding Robbie Benson (a player very much in the same mould as Towell) and Derry City striker Patrick McEleney manager Stephen Kenny has addressed this issue in the off-season. However it was striker Ciaràn Kilduff who stepped up last week, slotting home twice to get Dundalk 2-0 up early on.

It was a match that could've easily ended up with four or five goals for Dundalk as they carved Bray apart on numerous occasions so against a weaker side in Finn Harps, Dundalk should be scoring at least two or three times.

Finn Harps also opened their campaign with a win, edging out Derry City 2-1. Despite the win though it should be said that Derry were very unlucky not to come away from Donegal with a point considering they wasted a litany of opportunities. Jordan Allan was the main culprit as he was responsible for two unbelievable misses, both less than four yards out, at 0-0.

Another reason to side with Dundalk is because Finn Harps are a part-time club. Most of their players have other jobs so they wouldn't be training as often as most sides the Premier Division.

It might not have caused many problems last Friday but against Dundalk, the best side in Ireland, a lack of preparation could easily see them concede a handful of goals, especially with the creativity of Dundalk's Ronan Finn, Daryl Horgan and the efficient finishing from Ciarán Kilduff and David MacMillan.

As well as this, Harps manager Ollie Horgan has also surprisingly admitted he'd be “very surprised” if Finn Harps stay up this year, even this early on in the season, lamenting the difference in quality and fitness between the Premier Division and the First Division.

Pre-season preparation wasn't ideal for Finn Harps either since they were forced to train the majority of their pre-season on astroturf, as opposed to grass, where they've only been training the last two weeks.

Horgan has admitted that Harps will find it very tough at Dundalk this Friday and with the home side seemingly at full-strength plus Harps missing a few players the Dundalk win & over 2.5 match goals looks a great bet at 17/20.
