Premier League Darts – Anderson can prevail in a maximum fest

Fresh from a 28/1 place and three consecutive weeks of profit, darts guru Ben Levene (@benlevene96) looks ahead to week five of the Premier League of Darts.

Gary Anderson v Daryl Gurney| Thursday 8th March 2018, 21:20 | Sky Sports

Last weekend Gary Anderson romped to victory in the UK Open, winning his first televised title since his World Championship win back in January 2016.

The Flying Scotsman is playing some phenomenal darts at the minute. The back looks to be better and in each of his last two Premier League matches he’s averaged over 105.

Tiredness could be a factor after an intense weekend, and Anderson himself has admitted he struggles with it the demands of the tour.

However, Gary is a natural and so even after a few days away from his arrows, he’s capable of finding his range after a few turns. We saw him start slow against Peter Wright in Germany but when he got himself set, he reeled off three consecutive legs to comeback from 6-3 to 6-6.

I really like Daryl Gurney, but he’s not playing at his best at the minute. Super Chin gets easily frustrated and if Anderson can average anything around the ton mark, he’ll prove too consistent.

Gurney is always a relentless maximum hitter, and the fast-pace of both players throw means there’s potential for the 180’s to flow in abundance.

Remarkably, both players have hit exactly 17 180’s across 44 legs in the Premier League this season, giving a rate of a maximum every 2.59 legs.

Since the Masters in January, Gary Anderson has hit 180’s at a rate of every 3.2 legs, while Gurney averages a maximum every 2.65 legs.

You’d imagine this game will go at least 9 legs, and if we air on the side of caution we can still expect well over two 180’s apiece.

It’s 4/5 that Gary Anderson wins the match with both players hitting at least two 180’s.
