MATCHDAY 2 gets underway on Wednesday and Gavin Murphy (@GamePlanGavin) has found a bookings angle in the Romania v Switzerland game.

Romania v Switzerland | Wednesday 17:00 | ITV1

Romania and Switzerland met in their second game at the 1994 FIFA World Cup finals – a match Swiss fans will remember with much more fondness as the nations reconvene in UEFA EURO 2016 Group A.

The sides have met 12 times, each recording five wins and two draws. Switzerland enjoyed one of their finest World Cup victories when Roy Hodgson's team beat Romania 4-1 indoors at the Pontiac Silverdome, Detroit, in 1994. However, Anghel Iordănescu's Romania recovered to win the group and progress to the quarter-finals while the Swiss exited in the round of 16.

As we enter the second round of group games the stakes rise and so do the number of cards shown. Over the past two European Championships the average first group game had 3.3 cards whereas the second game typically has 4.18.

Russian Sergey Karasev gets the whistle for this fixture. He averaged fuve cards per game in Champions League and Europa League action this year. He averaged 5.5 across all competitions and has officiated both teams previously and gave them two yellows each.

In Euro 2012, 6/8 matches at this stage had 4-6 cards in them. With this ref averaging five cards per game this season that looks the call again. I'm backing 4-6 cards at even money with William Hill.

About Author

I first got interested in gambling through my cousin. He's a professional gambler and got me hooked as a teenager when you had to pay the 9% tax. Who remembers that?! These days I prefer to specialise on one market rather than spread myself too thinly. Hence my love of cards! Hopefully I can make others a few bob in the process of sharing my bets on WeLoveBetting. On a personal note I love most sports especially cricket, rugby and NFL. I support Tottenham and all things Welsh and outside of sport I enjoy reading autobiographies particularly with a glass of good wine!
