THERE’S a disrupted National League programme this weekend due tot the FA Trophy but Callum Jones (@Goaldust) was keen to tell us about one particular bet as well as a juicy outright selection.
Lincoln v Forest Green Rovers | Saturday 15:00
The sole National League game of the weekend comes from Sincil Bank; a place that has delivered goals so far this season.
In fact, there’s been an average of 2.70 goals-per-game across Lincoln’s 14 National League home games this campaign, and both teams have notched on nine occasions.
The Imps are without a league win in eight attempts, and their play-off hopes appear to be disappearing without a trace. They face a Forest Green side who sit second in the table, only five points from the top with a game in hand on leaders Cheltenham.
Forest Green have won each of their last six games in their own back yard, but have triumphed in only one of their last eight league fixtures on their travels, conceding in seven of those.
Both teams have scored in eight of their last nine away outings and there’s been an average of 3.30 goals-per-game in that span. It’s fair to say Ady Pennock’s side aren’t quite the same away from the New Lawn.
With that in mind, it’s tough to back a winner here but certainly not difficult to back the goals. While many eyes may be fixed elsewhere on the FA Trophy games taking place across the country, we’ll steal some value and back one of my favourite markets at a price that’s clearly a great deal bigger than the stats suggest it should be.
It’s Both Teams To Score and Over 2.5 Goals at 6/5 with Bet365.
I must admit, I backed Tranmere for promotion before the season began at a much smaller price than you can have now, and to be honest, I’ve looked a bit silly up to this point.
There’s no denying they have an excellent squad, assembled with a much bigger budget than most in the division, but they have been undone by inconsistency.
Indeed, after going nine games unbeaten, they lost six out of their next nine between October and December and looked to have blown their chances. However, 10 points from their last five games, including an unbelievable injury-time comeback at Barrow last weekend, has left them just four points from a play-off place.
February could turn out to be a huge month with games against Bromley, Torquay, Guiseley, Southport and Aldershot to come. But another 10 or 12 points in that frame against bottom-half clubs will see them right in the mix again and the 22/1 SkyBet are offering (bottom price is 10/1) about promotion looks worth a risk for a side who may have now turned a corner.
Lincoln v Forest Green Rovers – Both Teams To Score and Over 2.5 Goals (6/5 Bet365)
National League – Tranmere to win promotion (22/1 SkyBet)
