CAN League Two side Exeter upset Liverpool on Friday? Chris Graham (@chrisgraham79) looks at the odds for us.
Exeter v Liverpool | Friday 19:55 | BBC One
Ah Liverpool again? I seem to spend my life writing previews for Liverpool games. Trying to figure them out is incredibly hard and it seems the world and his wife were on Stoke in some form on Tuesday night in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday. I was too.
This match is intriguing and with it being the FA Cup and with half the squad in the treatment room we’ll see a lot of unfamiliar names in the Liverpool line up on Friday.
The likes of Ryan Kent, Sheyi Ojo and Tiago Ilori have all been mooted to appear for Jurgen Klopp’s side on Friday and they’re certainly an unknown factor.
It’s been a difficult few weeks for Exeter as they’ve picked up just one point from a possible 15 in the league and have lost their last four matches. Paul Tisdale’s side sit 16th in League Two.
This game has echoes of last season’s Cambridge v Manchester United match. Live on the BBC, Friday night, inconsistent Premier League side up against a League Two side. That night of course Cambridge managed to hold Louis Van Gaal’s side to a draw.
Like the Cambridge guys last season this is a great opportunity for Exeter to put themselves in the shop window and even book a trip to Anfield.
Is Exeter’s recent form something to be wary of in this match? Well again if we dip back to last year and use Cambridge as the example the answer is no. The U’s went into their encounter with Manchester United without a win in four and avoided defeat.
I’ll back Both Teams To Score here and also a very small stake on Exeter to win and BTTS to cop. It’s a Liverpool game so stakes should most certainly be low but with a second string team on the field they may find it tough in the St James Park surroundings.
Let’s hope Exeter can rise to the occasion on live TV like they did 11 years ago against Manchester United in the FA Cup. I’ll have an outrageous bet on them.
Exeter v Liverpool – Both Teams To Score (4/5 Stan James)
Exeter v Liverpool – Exeter to win and both teams to score (10/1 Ladbrokes)
