SOUTHAMPTON and Liverpool battle it out for the final place in the Capital One Cup semi-finals. Chris Graham (@chrisgraham79) looks at the odds.

Southampton v Liverpool | Wednesday 19:45

We’re heading for an-all Premier League League Cup semi-final line up. Exciting eh? Sarcasm aside this should be an intriguing game as two excellent sides hungry for trophy glory battle it out at St Marys.

Saints might still be having nightmares about their appearance at this stage of the competition last season. It was all teed up for them to reach the last four when they were drawn against League One side Sheffield United. Inexplicably they lost 1-0 that night to go out the competition.

After a frankly embarrassing attempt at the Europa League early in the season Southampton are fully in domestic mode this season and sit 10th in the table just five points off the Top 5.

As for Liverpool they’re on a crest of a wave at the moment with Jurgen Klopp in charge. The German’s figures read P10 W6 D3 L1. It’s very impressive when you consider they’ve taken down Manchester City and Chelsea within this spell.

Whether Klopp can fire Liverpool into the Top 4 or go deep in the Europa League or FA Cup this represents an ideal opportunity to sate the club by winning this piece of silverware.

Being European his natural instincts will be to avoid putting too much stock into this competition but being an educated man he’ll be aware that winning the third most important trophy in England counts for a lot. Just ask Kenny Dalglish ;)

One fear about Liverpool is whether their high-pressing energetic style will catch up with them at some point as they’re engaged in a lot of games at present.

I’m happy to go low on goals here. Four of the last six Southampton games went Under 2.5 Goals while for Liverpool it’s eight from their last 11. I’ll back Under 2.5 and have a play on 1-1 too.
