KING of the cards Gavin Murphy (@GamePlanGavin) takes a look at Chelsea’s crucial Premier League clash with Liverpool on Saturday lunchtime with a bookings angle.

Chelsea v Liverpool | Saturday 12.45 | BT Sport 1

The weekend Premier league action kicks-off in style at Stamford Bridge on Saturday with the battle between Chelsea and Liverpool top of the menu.

It has been suggested in some quarters that Jose Mourinho will be fired if the Blues fail to win this game. There is no disputing the champions look a shadow of their former selves and I expect plenty of passion on show as they bid to turn their faltering form around.

Liverpool have a little dull so far under new boss Jurgen Klopp. Their most recent visit to the capital resulted in a 0-0 bore draw at Tottenham and I suspect the charismatic German might feel this is a good time to play Mou’s Blues and chalk up his first statement victory.

Chelsea average 2.1 cards-per-game this season but Liverpool, surprisingly, have collected more with 2.2. Collectively, that’s around 4.3 cards-per-game.

The last nine meetings between these two teams have featured total card numbers of 7-4-5-4-4-7-4-7-6 – that’s an average of 5.3 cards-per-game.

The line this week is under/over 4.5 cards with Mark Clattenburg the man in charge – the experienced whistle-blower is averaging 3.88 cards-per-game this season.

Clattenburg dished out four cards in the recent drab goalless Manchester derby and he has history with Chelsea, going back to the John Obi Mikel saga. This season he officiated the Londoners at West Brom and gave a red and three yellows that day.

With passions running high, I really fancy Over 4.5 cards with Bet365 at 10/11.

About Author

I first got interested in gambling through my cousin. He's a professional gambler and got me hooked as a teenager when you had to pay the 9% tax. Who remembers that?! These days I prefer to specialise on one market rather than spread myself too thinly. Hence my love of cards! Hopefully I can make others a few bob in the process of sharing my bets on WeLoveBetting. On a personal note I love most sports especially cricket, rugby and NFL. I support Tottenham and all things Welsh and outside of sport I enjoy reading autobiographies particularly with a glass of good wine!
