LATE at work on a Friday night, Gavin Horsfall (@GHorsfall) still found time to send us his Anytime Goalscorer fancies from this weekend’s FA Cup action. Dedication!
It appears this column could do with a winner or two after a couple of blanks in recent weeks. That’s not to say it’s time to start doubting the system mind’ selections most weeks come from sides that I think will go well and sides going off at prices they shouldn’t are usually a good starting point.
With that in mind, hopefully you took the note about positive words said about both Scunthorpe and Newport last week.
Bradford City v Dartford | Sunday 14.00
Onto this week and the FA Cup throws up its usual quandaries around starting XIs, the prospect of the third round tie should give us plenty of confidence though that sides will all be taking it seriously.
Bradford looks a good place to start, beaten just once in November and with a cup pedigree to suit, they’re obviously prohibitively priced against Conference side Dartford side that are on a run of four straight defeats.
I thought both wide players were a touch of value here; Mark Yeates (3/1 Betfred) and Andrew Halliday (4/1 Skybet) with the latter just getting the nod despite not being a huge fan of set-piece taking wide men.
The on-loan Middlesbrough man seems to be benefitting from a run of games and should be a class above this Dartford side who have conceded 17 in eight games.
Oldham Athletic v Doncaster Rovers | Saturday 15.00
Doncaster’s away form shouldn’t have gone unnoticed either. Paul Dickov’s side are now unbeaten in four straight games on the road but face a fifth when then they head to Oldham on Saturday.
Doncaster were excellent at times in a 1-1 draw at Barnsley that perhaps, we could attach a bit more value to over the draw at Crewe the weekend prior.
Oldham are in good form themselves and have a 2-0 win at The Keepmoat already in their pocket from late August but despite the importance of reaching the third round, to me Doncaster look just the type of side that might benefit from the small weight lifted off their shoulders in a one-off cup fixture.
After some indifferent performances prior, Kyle Bennett has been one of the standout players this season; he easily made the notebook this weekend at 6/1 (BetVictor).
Best Bets
Bradford City v Dartford – Andrew Halliday to score at anytime (4/1 Skybet)
Oldham Athletic v Doncaster Rovers – Kyle Bennett to score at anytime (6/1 BetVictor)
