GAVIN Horsfall (@GHorsfall) returns with his world famous Anytime Notebook, on the hunt for Football League goalscorers this weekend.

Peterborough United v Scunthorpe United | Saturday 15.00

I’ve been backing teams for long enough to know confidence is a dangerous thing but wow that Peterborough price is a short one this weekend. A best price 8/13 for a side coming off two straight defeats, and while they’ve only been beaten once at home this season, they’ve fallen behind in six of the seven games played prior to last week’s capitulation at Coventry.

Scunthorpe remain winless under Mark Robins but have seen a definite improvement over the past couple of weeks. Luke Williams (7/2 Skybet) made an encouraging debut on-loan from Middlesbrough in the 1-0 defeat to Notts County last week, employed alongside Lyle Taylor up front, the 21-year-old made the Notebook last season after some good displays for Hartlepool.

The Iron will be without on-loan Posh players Bobby Olejnik and Shaun Brisley but look sure to give a good account of themselves at London Road.

Crawley Town v Crewe Alexandra | Saturday 15.00

It’s probably worth taking the view that John Gregory can plot a way past a depleted Crewe side this weekend. George Ray and Anthony Grant miss out through suspension for Alex while Matt Tootle appears to have picked up the flu.

Even ignoring those absentees, Crawley’s form takes on a solid look with just three defeats in 10, each of which coming against sides in the current top-five. With George Ray’s absence meaning Steve Davis will have to shuffle his defensive line, it’s about time Reds centre-half Joe Walsh (12/1 Betfred) started paying his way from set-pieces this term.

Burton Albion v Plymouth Argyle | Saturday 15.00

Assessing how much of a factor the departure of Gary Rowett will have on the Burton dressing room this week is a tough ask, it’s perhaps easier to deal in the evidence we do know about which suggests Albion are definitely missing John Mousinho in the middle of the park.

The Brewers have lost four from five at home in recent weeks which is good news for a Plymouth side looking to extend their unbeaten run to seven games. If you’re looking for alternatives to Reuben Reid then Lewis Alessandra (11/4 Bet365) makes the list. The 25-year-old has four in five for Argyle.

Best Bets

Peterborough v Scunthorpe – Luke Williams to score anytime (7/2 Skybet)

Crawley v Crewe – Joe Walsh to score anytime (12/1 Betfred)

Burton v Plymouth – Lewis Alessandra to score anytime (11/4 Bet365)
