GERMANY’S top two clubs clash in the DFB Pokal on Tuesday night. Mark O’Haire (@MarkOHaire) takes a look at the odds as Wolfsburg take on Bayern Munich.

The second round of Germany’s DFB Pokal has pitted together Germany’s top two teams in a repeat of August’s Super Cup encounter. Back then, cup holders Wolfsburg triumphed on penalties against Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich and the Wolves will fancy their chances of a repeat.
Since taking over at the Volkswagen Arena, Dieter Hecking’s led Tuesday’s hosts to W30-D13-L5 when hosting league opposition. That run of results includes W20-D7-L0 since March 2014 and only two defeats in 38 at home in all competitions. It’s a fearsome record.
Hecking will be desperate for his side to compete against their Bavarian rivals for a full 90 minutes. Much was made of the way Bayern, and particularly Robert Lewandowski, blasted the Wolves 5-1 at the Allianz Arena just a matter of weeks ago but Bundesliga followers will tell you, it could have been very different.
Wolfsburg deservedly led 1-0 at the interval and were a lick of paint away from doubling their advantage before the Pole took matters into his own hands after being introduced at half-time. Sure, the hosts already trail FC Hollywood by 12 points in the Bundesliga with Pep Guardiola’s troops boasting a 100% record after 10 fixtures but as Arsenal showed, they’re not unbeatable.
The stats might not back it up but Bayern are just too short at 1/2 for Tuesday’s tussle. Wolfsburg can be backed with a +1 Asian Handicap at 23/20 with Bet365 and that holds plenty of appeal – should the visitors win by a solitary goal, we’ll get our cash back. But a draw or Wolfsburg win will equal tidy profit.
But I’m also keen to explore the goals markets with Over 2.5 Goals and Both Teams To Score standing out at 10/11 (Bet365). Bayern’s loss at the Emirates was the first time in 16 matches they’d failed to net and their 15 outings in all competitions this season have produced 53 goals.
This selection has proven a successful formula in five of the last seven meetings and with Wolfsburg notching themselves in all bar two of their 15 games this term and the BTTS bet winning in 14/22 (64%) of Volkswagen Arena league matches since the start of last season, a repeat should have legs.
