Wednesday’s Bet Of The Day: Both sides may oblige

JACK Wright's (@JackWright_BSB) new Bet of the Day continues on Wednesday as we head to Germany.

VfL Osnabruck vs Regensburg | Wednesday 14th April 2021, 17:30

I am bypassing the glitz and glamour of the Champions League quarter-finals for my Bet of the Day to instead dive in to the murky waters of a Bundesliga 2 survival battle.

VFL Osnabruck currently occupy the final relegation spot and welcome relegation rivals Regensburg, knowing a win will not only close the gap between the two sides to just two points but also lift them out of the relegation zone at the expense of Braunschweig having played the same number of games.

For Mersad Selimbegović and his team taking all three points from this clash would mean a massive step towards safety and should come in to this game with a fair amount of confidence having only been narrowly beaten by Bundesliga side Werder Bremen in the DFB Pokal Quarter-finals last week, following on from two 1-1 league draws.

Conversely, Markus Feldhoff, has seen his side produce a terrible run of home form, losing the last ten successive games at their Stadion an der Bremer Brück, however it is the fact that three of the last five and six of those ten have seen both teams score that made me dig a little deeper.

I don’t like to travel to far in to the past for head-to-head results but certainly recent form is worth taking in to consideration in my opinion and it certainly piqued my interest in this selection to see that in the three games between this two since November 2019 the scores read 3-3, 2-2 and 2-4 – in fact the last six meetings have seen both sides get on the scoresheet.

This seems to me a game neither side can afford to lose but both will surely sense the opportunity and/or need for a win, which should mean an ebb and flow contest with at least one side at any given minute, if not both, going all out for a goal.

That is enough to get my vote as Bet of the Day.

Having had a passion for football for as long as I can remember – I’m talking Shoot League Ladders here – one of my first “bets” is still my biggest win. After begging my mum to let me fill in her pools coupon so I could show off my knowledge, eight draws later and a cheque for £11,500 was soon in the post. As a Norwich fan it’s important to have a good grasp of what’s going on in the lower leagues and I also like exploring those less popular leagues to have a delve into any stats-based markets that are available. Right now, I’m particularly enjoying player bets. Outside of sport, I love eating and drinking - maybe a little too much - as well as listening to a varied spectrum of music, both from the comfort of my own home and at festivals.
