Thursday's Bet Of The Day: Kiel can close in on promised land

A massive game in Germany with ramifications at both ends of the table is our destination for Thursday’s hat-trick seeking Bet of the Day.

Holstein Kiel have a fantastic opportunity to keep the pressure on Bochum in the race for the Bundesliga 2 title but more importantly stretch their lead to third placed Greuther Furth to four points with just two games left to play.

Ole Werner’s side should come in to this clash with the highest confidence considering their imperious recent home form.

They have claimed all three points in their last six fixtures at their Holstein-Stadion home, with their last five wins there coming to nil.

After a vital win against relegation rivals VfL Osnabruck, Mersad Selimbegović have struggled, only picking up one point from a possible 12 and were thumped by the league leaders last time out shipping five goals despite taking an early lead.

Scoring an own goal, having a man sent off and conceding a last-minute penalty as they did in that game at the Vonovia Ruhrstadion, is certainly the form of relegation candidates, but it also gives us a nice form line to how this game could play out given The Storks close proximity to Bochum in the table.

To get anything from this game the visitors will need to halt a wretched run of form against Kiel, having only won once in the last 12 meetings between the two sides including a 3-2 defeat in the reverse fixture in December – once again taking an early lead only to come away empty handed, an injury time Jan-Niklas Beste goal putting some respectability to the score line.
