Thursday’s Bet Of The Day: Corners king in Denmark

JACK Wright's (@JackWright_BSB) Bet of the Day returns for Thursday as we head to Denmark.

AGF Aarhus vs Viborg FF | Thursday 14th April 2022, 13:00

It’s the business end of the season in Denmark and a match that caught my eye is in the relegation (qualifying) group of Superliga.

For those of you unfamiliar with the workings of the Danish top flight, it consists of 12 teams who proceed to play each other home and away, resulting of course in 22 matches for each team at which point the league splits in two, a six-team championship playoff and a six-team qualifying playoff.

In both playoff groups the teams will play a full home-and-away schedule, with the bottom two teams in the qualifying playoff, being relegated to the 1st Division and it is this section we are focusing on here.

The team who finish 7th (top of the lower section) not only avoid relegation but go on to play against the lowest placed team from the Championship playoff, who failed to qualifying directly for European Football, a single match, to decide the final European spot from Denmark.

Viborg, last season's champions of the 1st Division, currently occupy that 7th spot and hold a three-point lead over their hosts here with just seven games remaining after this clash.

Since returning to action Jacob Friis’ side have only lost two of their seven Superliga fixtures, with those defeats coming to Copenhagen and Midtjylland, the current top two and with Aarhus drawing each of their last four – calling the result is a tough ask, but it is another market I am keen to play – corners.

Viborg rank second in the league for corners won at home, away AND overall, taking an average of 5.58 per road trip, only slightly down on their overall average of 6.04 – they also have the second lowest concession rate when playing away, allowing just 3.92 per game, while Aarhus have the third lowest home average, working out at 4.25 each time they play at Ceres Park.

The Greens have taken more corners than their hosts in nine of their 12 away games this season and in all of the last four, taking less on only two occasions, and when these two sides met here less than a month ago the visitors won the flag kick count 5-1.

Viborg most corners is available at 21/20 but for the extra comfort of a refund should the totals be level at the end of 90 minutes we can get odds of 93/100 with Bet 365 with the Asian Handicap Corners set at 0.0.

Having had a passion for football for as long as I can remember – I’m talking Shoot League Ladders here – one of my first “bets” is still my biggest win. After begging my mum to let me fill in her pools coupon so I could show off my knowledge, eight draws later and a cheque for £11,500 was soon in the post. As a Norwich fan it’s important to have a good grasp of what’s going on in the lower leagues and I also like exploring those less popular leagues to have a delve into any stats-based markets that are available. Right now, I’m particularly enjoying player bets. Outside of sport, I love eating and drinking - maybe a little too much - as well as listening to a varied spectrum of music, both from the comfort of my own home and at festivals.
