SCOTTISH football expert Gerry Taylor (@GerryTaylorTips) casts his eye over today's match in Paisley where Rangers aim to reclaim top spot against St Mirren
St Mirren v Rangers | Sunday 24th October 2021, 12:00 | Sky Sports
Another tight, competitive match beckons this lunchtime in Paisley. Rangers had a comfortable enough 2-0 win on Thursday evening at Ibrox in the Europa League against Brondby. So a seven mile trip along the M8 to take on The Buddies, won’t be a hardship.
Jim Goodwin’s host are on an excellent run – they have just won 3 consecutive top league matches for the first time since 2008. So, this won’t be a walk in the park for the Gers.
My initial wager is going to be St Mirren with a handicap start of +1.5 goals, which is 3/4 with Sporting Index. This bet has banked in 10/12 of Rangers games on the road, in 2021.
Steven Gerrard, as per usual, will just want the three points to go top of the league again, so if it’s an acceptable 1 goal win for the Teddy Bears, then our bet cops.
Alan Power has an incredible card record against the men from Govan, in his last 12 matches (for Kilmarnock) against Rangers, he has been carded 8 times!
For that reason I’m happy to get involved with Bet 365’s 2/1 for him to pick up a card, and he often sets the tone in games (red carded early away to Celtic for the Saints), so 9/1 to be the first carded player with the same firm is perhaps worth a dabble.
Best Bets
St Mirren +1.5 Goals 3/4 Sporting Index
Alan Power to be carded 2/1 Bet365
Alan Power to receive the first card 9/1 Bet365
