Manchester City are seemingly in their biggest crisis since Pep Guardiola took over at The Etihad, with the Citizens having dropped seven points from their opening five Premier League matches of the season. However, while I see a side that concede too many goals, I don’t think their performances have been that bad.
Yes, they conceded five against Leicester, but that included three penalties and some outrageous finishes. Aside from that, draws away to Leeds and West Ham are hardly disastrous and there are mitigating circumstances…namely that I have missed key players such as Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero for some of these fixtures.
City’s opponents, Marseille, will be tough. The French side are currently fourth in Ligue 1, with just one domestic defeat from eight fixtures to date. They have also enjoyed a victory over PSG in that sequence so I don’t think they will be daunted by the arrival of Guardiola’s side.
Marseille will, however, know that they need to get something from this game given that they lost their opening fixture in this group to Olympiakos.
City enjoyed a 3-1 victory over Porto last week and I expect a similar encounter on Tuesday night. I stated last week that 2-1 and 3-1 are the go to scorelines where City are concerned and they duly obliged.
If you look at the 197 Premier League and Champions League fixtures under Pep, City have won 2-1 on 25 occasions and 3-1 23 times. All of this suggests that the 15/2 BetVictor are offering on a 2-1 victory for the Manchester club is good value and the 10/1 on a 3-1 scoreline is simply exceptional.
It is my go to tactic were City are concerned and hopefully it obliges once again.
