JURGEN Klopp makes his Anfield bow. But how is Chris Graham(@chrisgraham79) playing the game?
Liverpool v Rubin Kazan | Thursday 20:05 | BT Sport 2
What looks on paper like a dull-as-dishwater Thursday night Europa League thankfully takes on an extra significance this Matchday 3 as the Jurgen Klopp Anfield era begins. Expect lots of banners, people dressed as eccentric Germans and a rousing rendition of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.
To be honest, Liverpool need some of that oomph in this competition. Knocked out at the first knockout hurdle last season they’re yet to win in the group stage this time round after two matches.
A home draw against Sion didn’t do Brendan Rodgers any favours while a 1-1 draw in Bordeuax before that wasn’t pointing to a bright future. Now it feels like they get to start again.
Opponents Rubin Kazan have had a disappointing season so far and lie in the bottom five of their domestic league. They’ve struggled in this group too with a defeat in Sion and a home draw against Bordeaux. On Thursday they don’t just face Liverpool, they face a maelstrom of hype and optimism.
Liverpool should win on Thursday but at odds of 4/9 is not a price I can entertain. Instead I’ll be having a small interest in the Win To Nil market at 11/10 with Skybet.
One thing that seems to be overlooked from Saturday’s draw with Spurs was the way Liverpool shut them out. This came just three weeks after the North London club smashed four goals past Man City.
Perhaps the key thing we’ll see with Klopp’s Liverpool this season is a tidying up of their (hitherto) poor defence, even more reason to get involved with the Win To Nil bet.
