Horse Racing – Six selections for Saturday’s superb racing card

0

RACING fan Graeme Johnston (@GraemeJ_83) picks out his best bet from Saturday's action.

1:10 Leopardstown | Novice Hurdle | At The Races

A Grade 1 novice hurdle over two miles six furlongs to kick-off a fantastic weekend and I like the look of Carter McKay (4/1 Marathon) here.

Third in a Grade 2 over two miles last time behind a couple of smart novices, the step-up in distance here will bring out significant improvement and he's my selection.

1:30 Musselburgh | Scottish Future Champions Novices' Chase | ITV4

The Scottish Future Champion Novice Chase sees a field of five line-up and I've backed Peter The Mayo Man to win this at 9/4 (Bet365).

He was a very good novice hurdler and came second at the course in the Supreme Novice Hurdle trial.

He looked a natural over fences on debut and I think he is likely to go one better than he did at last year's meeting.

1:45 Leopardstown | Dublin Chase | At The Races

A Grade 2 chase which looks between two Willie Mullins inmates and I'm siding with Min (5/2 Ladbrokes).

He wasn't impressive last time out however with a better pace to chase and that experience behind him I think he is overpriced in this field.

2:05 Musselburgh | Scottish County Hurdle | ITV4

The Scottish County Hurdle is very different to the Cheltenham equivalent with only five taking part but it is very competitive.

Sir Chauvelin is three from four over course and distance and was an impressive winner last time out.

He's progressive and I expect him to win this at 2/1 (Sportingbet).

2:20 Leopardstown | Arkle Novice Chase | At The Races

The Arkle Chase is sure to influence the Cheltenham equivalent and sees the ante-post favourite Footpad (4/7 Bet365) line up.

He has to reverse hurdle form with Petit Mouchoir but he's been so impressive over fences that he’s hard to oppose.

He's a short price but I fully expect him to maintain his unbeaten record over the larger obstacles.

3:30 Leopardstown | Irish Champion Hurdle | At The Races

The Irish Champion Hurdle is the highlight of the day and sees the mighty Faugheen line up on a recovery mission.

Looking at the front three in the betting, none of them are currently rock solid so I've backed Supasundae (22/1 Ladbrokes) each-way.

He's likely to go down the stayers route after this but he's a very good horse and could easily run in to a place at huge odds.

I grew up watching Hearts games with my dad and playing football at every opportunity so betting on it was the logical next step! Football coupons became a Saturday ritual and it introduced me into the world of horse racing. I started watching it on a regular basis, and after Galileo's Derby win in 2001 I was hooked. I follow both flat and national hunt racing attending the northern meetings when possible.
