Euro 2012 | Group A: Greece v Russia

0

A lot of people questioned why Greece were the outsiders in Group A after their excellent qualifying campaign but truth be told the bookmakers called it right. Fernando Santos’s side fought hard for a draw against Poland before crumbling early against the Czechs. Tonight they have to beat Russia to stay in the tournament.

That is no easy task as Russia have impressed many in their two games so far (their outright price has halved in a week) and they rightly go off favourites in this match.

The Russians haven’t lost since February 2011 and are unbeaten in 16 matches, the Greeks on the other hand have won just one of their last seven and crashed to Russia in Euro 2004 and Euro 2008. Will it be three in a row? We think so.

Take the superior Russians at a very generous general 8/11 to win this game and clinch Group A in the process.

Key Facts

  • Russia are unbeaten in 16 matches
  • Greece have won just one of their last seven games
  • Russia beat Greece at Euro 2004 and Euro 2008
