ROBERTO Martinez faces his old club as Everton face Swansea at Goodison on Sunday. Chris Graham (@chrisgraham79) looks at the odds for us.
Everton v Swansea | Sunday 13:30 | Sky Sports 1
It's just one win in nine for Everton in the league as they come into their final January Premier league fixture here on Sunday. It really should be two in nine after they let slip a lead against Chelsea in the 98th minute last week.
That goal last Saturday by John Terry's was offside and the rage from Everton manager Roberto Martinez in the post-match BBC interview was as strong as I can ever recall.
Martinez's raw rage probably had a lot to do with their current record. One win in nine and down in 12th position is simply unacceptable in a season like this.
Their lust for draws (11 is more than any other side in the division) makes quotes of 7/10 here particularly unappealing. Can you really back this side with confidence at those kind of odds?
Opponents Swansea grabbed a vital home win over Watford on Monday and with new coach Francesco Guidolin's feet fully under the table now they're an interesting side to assess.
Everton have won just three home league games this season but to be fair they've faced some tough sides at Goodison in the opening half of the season.
The wins came against Chelsea, Sunderland and Aston Villa and their four defeats have been against sides currently in the Top 10. Their Goodison programme takes in fixtures against Newcastle, West Brom and West Ham after this game so it's an opportunity for them to creep up the table.
It's rare for Swansea to pick the wrong guy to be at the helm so they need to be respected here but the truth is they've won just one league game this season away from the Liberty. That was against Aston Villa – nuff said.
Bar that Villa win and a 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park between Christmas and New Year, Swansea have lost all their away league matches since mid-September. Shocking stuff.
Everton are not a side to be trusted at odds on this season but they really ought to win here looking at both teams' 2015/16 form. A more lucrative way of getting with them is backing them to win by exactly one goal at 11/4 with Stan James.
Don't be surprised if the Swans play with credit here under their new direction but overall Everton should have enough in the tank to claim all three points. The 11/4 makes sense.
