Southampton v Everton | Saturday 15:00
As regular readers will know by now, I've been waiting for the inevitable derailing of Southampton’s season for a few months, and now they are in free fall as predicted, it would be pointless to ignore the opportunities they are presenting us.
Everton have not had a consistent season themselves and have a couple of injury concerns, but in Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku, the Toffees have two of the most exciting young talents in the Premier League.
A single point from the last 15 available has seen the Saints drop down the table like a lead balloon and I can’t see them getting more than a point on Saturday. Unfortunately Everton’s price has already started to shorten but I think there’s still some value to be had, so I’ll back Everton +0.25 at 11/13 with BetVictor where a draw is all we need to make a profit.
West Ham v Leicester | Saturday 15:00
The happy Hammers continue to defy logic and tradition by scoring goals and winning games. Since losing three of their first six, Sam Allardyce’s team have now lost just one of the last 10, and facing a desperate looking Leicester City side at home should not cause many problems for the league’s fourth best team.
West Ham have already beaten the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City at the Boleyn Ground, and although I wouldn’t normally rush to back them to cover a -0.75 handicap, this week against the Foxes it simply has to be done.
Having picked up just two points from their previous 11 games, Leicester are on course to be relegated in record time. If you had backed the Foxes +0.75 in all of their away games so far this season, you would have made a profit just once in eight games. Plus, with a total of four away goals this season, I’m very confident of a full win from backing West Ham -0.75 at 10/11 this weekend.
Liverpool v Arsenal | Sunday 16:00 | Sky Sports 1
The big match on Sunday looks a tough one to call despite both sides dealing with various ongoing issues and current form. But on my tissue price there is some tasty looking value to be had on the Reds, which as you should know doesn’t happen often especially when they are playing at home.
Arsenal bounced back in style from defeat at Stoke, by turning over Newcastle 4-1 which was a result that left one of last week’s picks well and truly beaten. But, I’m being brave and taking on the Gunners again this week.
Even as a United fan I can admit that Liverpool were unfortunate to lose 3-0 at Old Trafford last week, if Raheem Sterling and Mario Balotelli had been facing a different goalkeeper they could have bagged at least two goals each. Sterlings pace and finishing look to be a real threat for Liverpool now he’s playing in a more central striking role and it allows Brendan Rodgers to play three creative players behind him.
This new formation could cause the depleted Gunners backline serious issues on Sunday afternoon, but with the North London side also capable of scoring freely, there should be plenty of goals in the game.
Ultimately, I think the home field advantage could just give Liverpool the edge and so backing Liverpool 0 (DNB) at 15/14 looks like a great value free bet in my opinion.
