Chelsea entertain Juventus in what is a pivotal game in deciding who finishes first in Group H of this competition. Chelsea are currently three points behind their opponents, having suffered their sole loss in the competition in Turin.
Juventus scored with their sole shot on target in that encounter and while Chelsea only managed one shot on target themselves, they did have 16 shots to Juventus’s six and also won the corner count 8-1.
Those stats should give Thomas Tuchel confidence that his side can overcome a tough opponent and emerge from this group as winners. Ultimately, I think they will prevail but don’t expect it to be a comfortable victory full of goals.
Two of Chelsea’s three victories in the group stages have been 1-0 wins and since Tuchel became manager they’ve become almost impregnable at the back, evidenced by the fact that they’ve only conceded five goals in 16 Premier League and Champions League matches this term.
Under Tuchel, Chelsea have played 42 matches in the Premier League and Champions League. 24 of these matches have seen them win and under 3.5 goals scored. With that in mind, the 6/5 with BetVictor on said event to happen again looks a very attractive price.
I did consider a couple of other bets. I wouldn’t put anyone off Chelsea to win by a single goal, which is 5/2 generally and also did look at backing Dejan Kulusevski at 4/1 to be carded.
The Swedish international is actually the most frequent offender for Juventus (in terms of fouls) in Serie A this term but he only has one card to his name. He has, however, been booked already in this competition this season and his seven yellows in 35 Serie A matches last season also suggest this is a fair price.
However, I am not certain he will start and with that in mind I will keep it simple and just back Chelsea to win and under 3.5 goals to be scored.
