Sunday’s Bet Of The Day: Killie hitman to make his mark

JACK Wright's (@JackWright_BSB) Bet of the Day continues on Sunday as we head to Scotland.

Hamilton vs Kilmarnock | Sunday 16th May 2021, 12:00

It is crunch time in the battle to stay in the Scottish Premiership – with a high noon shootout this Sunday

Barring a mathematical miracle, or put in football terms a 10-0 win, Hamilton will finish the season bottom of the table, opponents Kilmarnock have a chance but their fate is out of their own hands, as a point for Ross County at Motherwell will guarantee their safety and consign Killie to a play-off with Dundee or Raith to play top flight football next season.

Tommy Wright’s side blew a massive opportunity in midweek, throwing away 2-0 and 3-2 leads against St Mirren, advantages that if theyu had held on to would mean trailing County by just a point instead of three going in to these final match ups.

One man who has done his all to keep the men from Rugby Park up is the nomadic Kyle Lafferty – scorer of the opening two goals in midweek.

Kilmarnock fans had said their team were crying out for a goalscorer to have any hope of avoiding the drop and they certainly found one when picking up the 33-year-old Northern Ireland international after his mutual consent release by Reggina – firing eight goals in as many SPL games, plus four more in two Scottish cup appearances.

If the East Ayrshire outfit are to avoid the dreaded relegation playoff place, they have to take care of their own business first and foremost, so we should expect them to take the game to the Accies and they will be relying on Northern Ireland’s second highest goal scorer to keep up his goal a game record in what is now their most important game of the season.

No side in the Relegation Group has scored more goals than Kilmarnock (41) this campaign, but their position says all we need to know about their defensive frailties, which could well lead to a we score more than you scenario at the Hope CBD Stadium.

Tommy Wright couldn’t have handpicked better opposition for a must win game with the home side not having the sweet taste of success in their own stadium since January 2nd and recording just two wins in total.

If there is one man set to be the final day hero it has to be Lafferty, who admittedly, after five yellow cards in those eight league games, is nearly as likely to pick up a caution as score a goal, but is most definitely the latter I am putting forward for the Sunday Bet of the Day at very appealing odds of 6/5 with Unibet.

Having had a passion for football for as long as I can remember – I’m talking Shoot League Ladders here – one of my first “bets” is still my biggest win. After begging my mum to let me fill in her pools coupon so I could show off my knowledge, eight draws later and a cheque for £11,500 was soon in the post. As a Norwich fan it’s important to have a good grasp of what’s going on in the lower leagues and I also like exploring those less popular leagues to have a delve into any stats-based markets that are available. Right now, I’m particularly enjoying player bets. Outside of sport, I love eating and drinking - maybe a little too much - as well as listening to a varied spectrum of music, both from the comfort of my own home and at festivals.
