Sunday’s Bet Of The Day: Goals forecast for France

JACK Wright's (@JackWright_BSB) brilliant Bet of the Day continues on Sunday as we head to Ligue 1…

Lens vs Nimes | Sunday 25th April 2021, 14:00

As was the case with yesterday’s Bet of the Day, this clash has implications at both ends of the table, but rather than use that for an expectation of cards – this time we will be looking for goals.

Lens couldn’t have wished their first season back in the French top flight since 2015, to have gone any better and a fantastic 12 match unbeaten run now sees them unexpectedly challenging for a European qualification position, just two points adrift of fifth placed Marseille with this game in hand.

The only possible negative around that run is that seven of those twelve games have been tied of which six were score draws.

At the other end of the table Nîmes continue to show plenty of fighting spirit as they battle to avoid relegation and have only lost one of their last five games however, in a similar vein to their hosts drawing three of those fixtures, all of which by a 1-1 scoreline.

Pascal Plancque’s side recently went to league leaders Lille and came away with all three points with all the goals in a 2-1 victory coming in the opening 45 minutes – therefore a trip to the Stade Bollaert-Delelis should hold no fears.

With both sides desperate for the three points and knowing the other side is vulnerable to conceding goals we should see a really open game here – with a point not really of much use to either side at this stage of the season.

Lens have seen goals at both ends in each of their last nine Ligue 1 fixtures while Nimes’ record of both teams scoring in four of their last five is enough evidence to suggest they have decided to leave nothing out on the pitch in an attempt to save their top flight status.

The reverse fixture way back in September also saw both teams score as – unsurprisingly we saw a 1-1 stalemate and although as already mentioned it wouldn’t really suit either side – another scoring draw would not surprise me here.

But for my Bet of the Day all I am looking for is both teams to score and we can get odds of 5/6 from Betway for that outcome to come to fruition.

Having had a passion for football for as long as I can remember – I’m talking Shoot League Ladders here – one of my first “bets” is still my biggest win. After begging my mum to let me fill in her pools coupon so I could show off my knowledge, eight draws later and a cheque for £11,500 was soon in the post. As a Norwich fan it’s important to have a good grasp of what’s going on in the lower leagues and I also like exploring those less popular leagues to have a delve into any stats-based markets that are available. Right now, I’m particularly enjoying player bets. Outside of sport, I love eating and drinking - maybe a little too much - as well as listening to a varied spectrum of music, both from the comfort of my own home and at festivals.
