Borussia Monchengladbach vs Manchester City Betting Preview & Tips

Manchester City travel to Budapest to face Borussia Monchengladbach on the back of 18 victories in a row in all competitions and surely their greatest opportunity to win Champions League.

City are unsurprisingly overwhelming favourites to win this particular tie, with The Citizens around 1/3 to emerge victorious from the away fixture. Their opponents Monchengladbach are currently eighth in the Bundesliga, have gained just two points from their last four league matches and manager Marco Rose announced last week that he is leaving the club at the end of the season to join Borussia Dortmund.

Monchengladbach qualified for the last 16 of this competition after coming through a group including Real Madrid and Inter Milan. The German side side only failed to score in one of their four matches against said opponents, earning two 2-2 draws in the process.

That being said, I don’t think there is a side in Europe who are a match for City at the minute. Their last four league matches have come against Liverpool, Tottenham, Everton and Arsenal, all of whom have Champions League aspirations themselves next season (Arsenal’s may be a little unlikely). City scored 11 goals and conceded just two goals across that set of fixtures as they outclassed each opponent.

I expect a similar story in Budapest but don’t expect City to run up the kind of victories we may have seen in the past. Pep Guardiola’s side breezed through the group stages, amassing 16 points from six games and only conceding one goal themselves.

However, they didn’t score more than three in any of those matches and the City and under 4.5 goals bet would have landed in five of their six encounters. Similarly it has obliged on 15 occasions this incredible run of 18 victories.

All of this suggests to me that the 31/40 Betway are offering on a City win and four goals or fewer to be scored is excellent value. City and under 3.5 goals has landed in 10 of those 18, suggesting that the 11/8 on offer is also a good price but I will keep it simple and simply take the conservative option!
