New Orleans Saints @ Las Vegas Raiders | Tuesday 22nd September 2020, 00:15 | Sky Sports
Writing about the Raiders this year is tougher off the bat with me having to remember that they’re in Las Vegas each time. The game itself I’m also finding tough to call based on what we saw from these two teams last week and the matchups going into this game.
With Drew Brees looking like he doesn’t have much arm strength these days, the Saints were such a condensed offense last week, and are now missing star WR Michael Thomas to boot. But then they are going up against what looks to be one the worst defences in the league.
The Raiders still look like the porous defence from last year, giving up 30 points to the Panthers in their first game. Even if the Saints work exclusively within the numbers, you’d think the experienced offense that they are will have some success.
On the flip-side of that, Las Vegas’ offense did look pretty good against Carolina with Josh Jacobs in particular standing out. Even in a game where they were seemingly going up and down the field, Derek Carr still only completed 22 passes. Indeed, it’s something of a trait for Carr and I think this is an angle we can work on Monday night – I’ll be backing him to have Under 24.5 Pass Completions (8/11 SkyBet).
The Saints will provide Carr and the Raiders offense with a much sterner test than the Panthers did last week for sure, but a low number of completions seems to be common for Carr no matter who the opposition is. Last season he was under 25 completions in 10 of 16 games and only surpassed 40 attempts once. I think he’ll make it 2/2 in games this season.
