BUNDESLIGA fanatic Jonny O'Sullivan (@libero_the) oversees Sunday's showdown between Mainz and Augsburg.
Mainz Augsburg | Sunday 14th June 2020, 14:30 | BT Sport
Mainz host Augsburg in a game where both clubs will be desperate to grab all three points due to their precarious positions in the Bundesliga.
Mainz played well against Frankfurt and deserved their win, putting an end to a five-game winless run in the process. This should hopefully bring confidence to a side who have talent at the front end of the pitch. The likes of Robin Quaison, Jean-Phillipe Mateta and last week’s hero Pierre Kunde Malong, can all damage the opposition with pace and power.
Augsburg head into this off the back of an entertaining draw against Koln. Seventeen shots, seven corners and multiple guilt-edge missed chances later, Heiko Herrlich’s outfit only managed to score once and grab a 1-1 draw. On another day, this match could have been 4-4 as they presented numerous big chances to their opponents, who were equally as wasteful.
Augsburg's six games away in 2020 have seen 16 goals, with the visitors conceding over two goals per-game. Mainz have a similar record as they have seen 17 goals in their seven home matches this calendar year. Considering one of those games was a lifeless 0-0 against a then lifeless Hertha Berlin, that’s quite a lot of goals.
With the desperation of both sides set to take centre stage, hopefully for the neutral, both sides will view attack as the best form of defence and build on a positive performance in their last match. Over 2.5 Goals pays 4/5 (Bet365).
