Washington Redskins @ Carolina Panthers | Sunday 1st December 2019, 18:00
Derrius Guice and Adrian Peterson present a problem for the Redskins while they try to establish their identity. Both the injury prone rookie and the well-travelled veteran have been fighting for the #1 running back spot when healthy, but the Redskins have so far managed to keep them both satisfied.
That said, having two good players at one position is better than none.
This week they face a good Carolina Panthers team, who’s biggest weakness this season has been their run defence. Against the run, they rank just 27th, allowing 127.5 yards per game and NINETEEN touchdowns. That’s four more TD’s than the next worst team, and an average of nearly two per-game.
With that in mind, I’m backing both the Redskins running backs to score this weekend. Partly because I can’t say for sure which one will end up with the most carries, and partly because they will both be used on the ground and in the air, making their prices seem even more inviting.
Both best priced on Betfair, you can get Guice anytime at 7/2 and Peterson at 4/1. You’ll be lucky to find anywhere close to that elsewhere, they are as short as 11/8 on Coral and Ladbrokes.
Both players will get ample opportunities to dig their heels in, and given they have a rookie QB at the helm they will likely find themselves with higher usage than normal.
Everything points towards a Carolina victory, but the Redskins should win the battle on the ground.
New York Jets @ Cincinnati Bengals | Sunday 1st December 2019, 18:00
The New York Jets have been heavily hampered with injuries this season; it has completely derailed their season as they sit at a measly 4-7. That said, with everybody back, they’ve turned into one of the NFL’s most exciting offenses and have put up 34 points in their last three matches.
To my surprise, you can get them to score 26 points or more at a very decent looking 6/4 on Sky Bet. I really struggle to see the bookies logic behind that price.
In his last three games, Sam Darnold has been ranked a top 10 in each of them, including a top three performance last time out against the Oakland Raiders. Darnold is also aided by Le’veon Bell by his side, who commands close attention from the defence. And yet still, he has gone for 100+ scrimmage yards and a TD in each of his last four matches.
The Jets face a Bengals team in complete disarray. Winless all season, they benched long-time starter Andy Dalton after their bye week, only to reinstate him this week after Ryan Finley failed to deliver.
Defensively they are the worst in the league. 417.2 yards per-game allowed to the opposition is the most by any team, and an average of 26.5 points per game would see our Jets beat the bookies if that average kept up.
Handicap wise, the Jets come into the match at -3. I’m tempted to say go bigger, but no need to bite off more than we can chew.
I can see the Jets winning large again, and possibly making it a 4th straight week of 30+ points. Back them to win by three or more points and score 26 or more in the process.
