OUR man in Italy, Marco Di Cosmo (@scioltz) analyses the Coppa Italia final on Wednesday night.
Juventus v AC Milan | Wednesday 9th May 2018, 20:00 | Sky Sports
The final of Coppa Italia will be played at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on Wednesday night with AC Milan and Juventus fighting it on neutral territory.
Juventus have all but secured their seventh successive Serie A title- an Italian record – and they could focus much of their efforts on this final.
On the other hand, AC Milan have clearly failed this season, now sitting sixth and struggling to even qualify for a place in the Europe League next season.
Nevertheless, this match could be much more balanced affair than you might expect.
Milan can get on the scoresheet
These two sides are separated by 31 points but it’s fair to say that over final third of the campaign, Juventus have been far from brilliant.
The Bianconeri have almost emptied their tank, as you might expect from some of their last results: a 1-1 draw in Crotone and especially the 1-0 loss against Napoli. But they've also struggled in their positive results: a 3-2 win against Inter, where they trailed against 10 men.
Thus, I am not calling those games out as the difference between the two sides but I am backing Milan to at least score, with bookies offering generous odds on Both Teams To Score (11/10 Ladbrokes).
The Bianconeri have conceded in all their last five matches (including the Champions League), and some absences in their defence could help AC in their mission to get on the scoresheet.
The Rossoneri certainly aren't a ruthless scoring machine, as coach Rino Gattuso loves a conservative style, but their quality is being more and more consistent throughout the season. Milan’s motivation will be even superior, as winning Coppa Italia would give a completely different meaning to their campaign, plus it would save their European Cup qualification.
No words should be added to Juventus’ scoring ability, as a goal in each match is guaranteed when you have the quality of likely attack Douglas Costa, Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain in the same team.
That's why the 11/10 (Ladbrokes) for BTTS is too big to ignore.
