Played 11. Won 11. Scored 39. Yeah, Thomas Tuchel’s made a record-breaking start in charge of Dortmund and following their outstanding performance in dispatching Leverkusen on Sunday, the Black & Yellows continue to enhance the Bundesliga’s best ever start to a season – W5-D0-L0 with an aggregate 18-3 advantage.
Those 11 successive victories are also a club record and you’d assume BVB can continue their flying form on Wednesday night against a Hoffenheim side have disintegrated appalling at Mainz last Friday night. Markus Gisdol’s hosts have been beaten in nine of their last 12 when entertaining top-six opposition and their paltry tally of one point from their first five represents their worst ever start to a Bundesliga season.
Hoffe have already leaked 10 goals and should come unstuck against a rampant Dortmund attack. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s scored in every Bundesliga match this term with Tuchel’s troops notching at least three goals in each. BVB have netted three or more goals in five of their past nine away days and should have Marco Reus fit enough to start again.
Dortmund are too short to suggest a bet so we’ll add in Over 2.5 Goals alongside the away win at 4/5 with Boylesports. All bar two of the Black & Yellows’ 2015/16 fixtures have featured three or more goals , as have nine of their previous 11 away days at bottom-six clubs and four of Hoffenheim’s five outings this term.
Hannover v Stuttgart | Wednesday 19.00
Hannover take on Stuttgart in an early relegation six-pointer. Gladbach’s dreadful start means neither side props up the Bundesliga table but their accumulative one point from a possible 30 is hardly anything to shout about.
Since the start of last season, these two clubs have suffered 40/78 (51%) defeats in league games and kept only 13 clean sheets between them. The duo will be desperate to put a first win on the board and I think that desperation could well lead to another goal-hungry game.
Hannover have seen 22/39 (56%) of matches feature both teams scoring since the start of last season with 21/39 (54%) also producing three goals or more. Taking their home fixtures only, 13/19 (69%) were profitable for Both Teams To Score punters and 10/19 (53%) also broke the Over 2.5 Goals barrier.
A quick peek at Stuttgart during the same timeframe shows similarly strong trends. VFB saw 22/39 (56%) successful BTTS and Over 2.5 Goals bets with their road results also producing 12/19 (63%) matches with at least three goals plundered and 14/19 (74%) featuring Both Teams To Score winners.
I’d love to side with Stuttgart, here. Their performances have certainly been a whole lot better than their results (W0-D0-L5) but Alexander Zorniger must be tearing his hair out as sloppy defensive errors have gotten in the way. The Swabians dominated Schalke on Sunday but still lost and with the dreaded ‘worst ever start to a season’ tag hanging over them, I just can’t find the faith.
Hannover are horrendous. Two wins in 23 Bundesliga outings and their one-point haul is also their lowest ever points haul at this stage and even with W1-D4-L6 in their last 11 as hosts, there’s enough doubt to steer clear of siding with Wednesday’s visitors. Stuttgart have W1-D2-L7 away days in 2015, leaving Bet365’s 5/6 on Over 2.5 Goals and Both Teams To Score my favoured play.
Schalke v Eintracht Frankfurt | Wednesday 19.00
Schalke have secured back-to-back victories in the Bundesliga for the first time this year and the 10 points they’ve accrued from their first games represents the Royal Blues’ best start to a season since 2012/13. Andre Breitenreiter’s boys rode their luck at Stuttgart on Sunday but Leroy Sane’s lovely goal and a Man of the Match display from goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann ensured a 1-0 win.
And the Gelsenkirchen club should fancy their chances on enhancing that recent run with Eintracht Frankfurt making the journey to the Veltins Arena. Schalke have W7-D5-L0 of their past 12 top-flight home games against the Eagles and come into this match on the back of just W6-D4-L1 in their last 11 Bundesliga matches as hosts. When taking on top half teams, Schalke have come out victorious in eight of their last 11 on home soil.
The Royal Blues are trading at a shade of odds-on but I’m going to boost that price to 21/10 (Bet365) by backing Schalke to win and Both Teams To Score. Eintracht have W5-D3-L1 in their last nine when including last season’s results and should start with last season’s Bundesliga top goalscorer Alex Meier just behind Luc Castaignos and Haris Seferovic up top in their usual attacking approach.
But central defensive lynchpin Carlos Zambrano remains sidelined and Frankfurt have W1-D4-L9 in their most recent 14 away days in the top-flight. Goals tend to be a feature, mind. A huge 14/20 (70%) of the Eagles road trips have featured three goals or more with a whopping 11/20 (55%) also breaking the Over 3.5 Goals barrier. They should be capable of getting a goal but ultimately I fancy Schalke to win.
