New season, new optimism! That's the motto for Arsenal fans this season. Just take a look in their eye, they're buzzing. It's great to see but I'd be stunned if it results in them winning the title come May.
On Sunday they face West Ham, a team I've already spent hours writing about this season. I'm hugely against West Ham this season as you'll know. Their exit from the Europa League on Thursday was a massive blow to relegation backers like me but I'm willing to keep the faith for now.
Why have I backed them for relegation? Well, there's their pathetic effort in the second half of last season when they dropped from the Top 4 to the bottom half of the table. There's the fact that they've recruited a manager with an unimpressive recent CV and of course it's that huge 7/1 quote. As you all know, betting is all about price, nothing else.
Arsenal will win here today but you'd be a mad man to chuck them into your acca at odds as short as 1/4. The fact West Ham have been in competitive action since early July makes me a little uneasy with regard to piling my salary onto the Gunners.
But how can you get with The Gunners at decent odds? Well with such prohibitive odds available it seems sensible to jump into the Total Goals market.
I was gutted to be one goal low for the Chelsea game on Saturday but I'm hopeful 3-4 goals should cover this game. That's paid out in the last two Arsenal opening games and I'm happy to side with that again.
The Gunners were frothing at the mouth last week against Chelsea and looked really up for this season. I can see them notching two or more here. Amazingly backing 3-4 goals would have paid out in six of the last seven Arsenal v West Ham games. A huge stat in my favour.
Arsenal looked superb last week and with West Ham engaged in competitive action over the last month we should see the goals flowing here.
