Horse Racing – Limato a vulnerable Friday favourite at Newmarket

RACING fan Gaurav Chaddah (@GauravChaddah) offers his verdict on Friday's action from York and Newmarket.

2:40 York | ITV

One of the two live ITV races from York is this class two handicap over seven furlongs. The favourite, UAE Prince (4/1 Bet365) was a fifth length fifth in the Cambridgeshire a fortnight back and would of almost certainly have finished closer had he not been denied a clear run.

The Roger Verian horse is goes from the same mark here and is a rightful favourite however has never won above class three and is winless since April 2017, he has to be taken on.

Alemaratalyoum (11/2 Bet365) is one of the form horses coming into the race and is only three pounds higher than his latest win over flopped at York last time and seems to prefer Haydock.

Another horse of interest is the Alan King trained Chatez (10/1 Bet365) who’s only run this season was a fourth at Ayr and will come on for the run, two pounds higher than his last win a year ago, but race fitness against horses who’ve ran all season may be a question.

York can be a rather tricky track but one horse that seems to love it is Get Knotted, (9/1 Bet365) who’s last three wins have all come at this track. Whilst he would prefer a little more cut in the track, he has form across all goings and is only two pounds higher than his last win at York which was back in July.

Get Knotted was also a four length fourth in the recent Ayr Gold Cup but this is an easier race and I can see him getting his noise in front.

3:00 Newmarket | ITV

It is no surprise to see Limato, (15/8 SkyBet) as favourite here. The six-year-old has been around for so long now, winning this race last year and has Group 1 honours to his name.

It’s been a difficult season for the Henry Candy horse, who was trailed at a mile at the beginning of the season but failed to make any impression first in the Lockinge and then in the Queen Ann at Ascot.

Since his return to sprinting, he finished third last in the July Cup before listed wins at Newmarket and then York. He steps back up in class here, but I think we may have seen the best of him and is a vulnerable favourite.

Charlie Appleby is having a fine season and I think it can continue here in the form of his four-year-old D’bai, (10/3 Sky Bet.)

Since winning at Haydock at the beginning of the season, he has finished in midfield in some races during the summer. However, most recently, was one of his most impressive performances to date where he was a neck second to Mustashry in a Group 2 at Doncaster, who has since won again.

The form is rather solid, with the third that day finishing second in a Group two at Longchamp over the weekend and I think he can get the better of Limato here.

Best Bets

2:40 York – Get Knotted (9/1 Bet365)

3:00 Newmarket – D’bai (10/3 SkyBet)
