Horse Racing – Experienced campaigner backed for Stewards Cup triumph

HORSE RACING boff Graeme Johnston (@GraemeJ_83) picks out his best bet from Friday’s card at Glorious Goodwood.

3:40 Goodwood | Stewards Cup | ITV

The Stewards Cup is the highlight of the final day of Glorious Goodwood and this looks as competitive as ever. Twenty-eight go to post and I’m backing one each-way who has plenty of experience in these types of races.

Foxtrot Lady (6/1 Ladbrokes) is a hugely progressive filly who comes here on the back of a good win in a Newmarket handicap last time out. She has already won three starts this season and her half-sister won this race for the yard a couple of years ago, so she’s high on the shortlist.

Gifted Master (14/1 Ladbrokes) is likely to force the pace here and he’s has a good career down the year. He’s spent most of his career in listed and group company and this is only his second start in handicap company. He won his only previous handicap so he is of interest but I’m not backing him.

I’ve backed George Bowen (14/1 William Hill) each-way here I fully expect him to run a huge race. He is experienced in this type of race and is in the form of his life. He’s ran well at the track before, loves quick ground and everything is in place for a huge run here.

Best Bets

I grew up watching Hearts games with my dad and playing football at every opportunity so betting on it was the logical next step! Football coupons became a Saturday ritual and it introduced me into the world of horse racing. I started watching it on a regular basis, and after Galileo's Derby win in 2001 I was hooked. I follow both flat and national hunt racing attending the northern meetings when possible.
