Cheltenham: RSA Novices’ Chase betting preview

CHELTENHAM FESTIVAL fanatic Graeme Johnston (@GraemeJ_83) shares his thoughts on the RSA Novices' Chase, the second race on Day 2.

RSA Novices' Chase | Wednesday 13th March 2019, 14:10 | ITV1

The RSA Novices’ Chase – the Gold Cup for novices – and a race that was up until a few years ago a graveyard for favourites. Recently it has become a lot more favourable for those at the head of the market and I can see that continuing here.

I don't understand why Santini (4/1 BetVictor) is so well fancied. He's a good horse, but I'm not convinced by him and he's priced on reputation rather than his on track exploits. He struggled round in the Albert Bartlett last year and I expect a similar round here.

Delta Work (11/4 Blacktype) is a previous Festival winner and now a dual Grade 1 winner over fences. His victory over Le Richebourg is top-class novice chase form and I expect him to win this and continue what could be a great start for Gordon Elliot and Giggenstown stud.

I grew up watching Hearts games with my dad and playing football at every opportunity so betting on it was the logical next step! Football coupons became a Saturday ritual and it introduced me into the world of horse racing. I started watching it on a regular basis, and after Galileo's Derby win in 2001 I was hooked. I follow both flat and national hunt racing attending the northern meetings when possible.
