Top meets bottom in the 3.Bundesliga this weekend as Karlsruher look to extend their impressive run of form against a Braunschweig side, who only secured their second league win of the campaign last weekend.

Much better was expected of Braunschweig this season. They were playing in the league above last season, but are at real risk of suffering back-to-back relegations. They’ll be hoping the 1-0 triumph over Cottbus can be the springboard to gaining more victories. At the moment, they’re seven points from safety at the halfway point of the campaign.

Karlsruher however are going from strength to strength. They endured a winless October but they have raced back into form since then, winning six in succession. During that period, they haven’t faced many of the bright lights in the week, with the exception of last weekend. A very good 3-0 away win in Hallescher, who sit fourth in the standings, suggests that Alois Schwartz’s men are really at the top of their game at present.

The numbers back this up as well. They are the third-highest scorers in the division and also possess the joint second-best defensive record. The form guide understandably has them top of proceedings too, whilst Braunschweig remain bottom of that category despite their recent win. Former Borussia Monchengladbach coach Andre Schubert has been in the job at the bottom side since October, but aspirations this weekend won’t be too high against the current best side in this league.

Braunschweig have the worst defensive record in the league and only two other clubs have scored fewer than they have. No team has earned fewer points on the road, or even at home, than they have done. It was a summer of change at the football club and even now they are experiencing changes as they look to discover some consistent form.

Karlsruher are clearly the side we are going to be siding with this weekend. They are odds-on to do so, but they should be reliable enough to stick in your coupons at around 4/6. However, to ever so slightly increase our odds, we’ll throw in Over 1.5 Goals too. This is my little trick to boost odds as there aren’t too many 1-0’s these days, especially in a top versus bottom encounter such as this.

Every Karlsruher home game has ended over 1.5, whilst 74% of their matches overall have done. For Braunschweig, 89% of their games both home and away has done so too.

Best Bet

Karlsruher to win and Over 1.5 Goals pays a cheeky 5/6 (188Bet).
