National League – Make the Monkey Hangers your main weekend play

NON-LEAGUE expert Paul Maddison (@LouthBigDog) shares his favourite fancies from Saturday afternoon's coupon.

Hartlepool v Aldershot | Saturday 29th September 2018, 15:00

Before Hartlepool's slip-up away to Salford in midweek they had won six and drawn two of their previous eight matches.

The Monkey Hangers sit just outside the play-off places on goal difference but they will fancy themselves to finish in the top seven come the end of the season.

Their opponents, Aldershot, have had a pretty poor start to the season after reaching the play-offs last time out.

Their main problem they have is their form away from home. The Shots are yet to pick up a single point on their travels and have only found the back of the net twice, whilst conceding 14 in those six games.

188BET go 9/10 on a home win – that looks a banker.

Maidenhead v Salford | Saturday 29th September 2018, 15:00

After a tough start to the season Maidenhead have turned it around and put together a good little run. They have lost just twice in their last eight games, but looking closer, those results have come against teams you would expect to be in the lower reaches of the table, or teams in poor form.

Salford also had a slow start to the campaign, but they look like they're kicking into gear and are showing signs of what everyone thought they could be. They have won eight and drawn two of their last 10, including five wins in their last five, scoring 11 and conceding just once.

That positive Accies run has including victories against Fylde and Hartlepool.

Big-money signing, Adam Rooney is on eight goals already. Danny Lloyd has hit the ground running too, chipping in with plenty of assists, and Tom Walker has netted four in his last five.

Salford should have far too much quality here for Maidenhead and 63/50 at Marathon are odds I can't ignore for the away win.

Maidstone v Chesterfield | Saturday 29th September 2018, 15:00

It's fair to say I'm not expecting a thriller here.

Maidstone have recently appointed Harry Wheeler as their new manager, but the football doesn't seem to be any more exciting. Their last six games have seen just seven goals scored – the Stones have notched just two of those with five ending in a 1-0 scoreline. Two of those 1-0's were decided by late penalties and another by an own goal.

Chesterfield are in terrible form at the moment. Since winning their opening three games, they have lost eight and drawn two. They have scored just twice in their last eight, but only conceded 11 in the same period. I can't imagine it will be long before ‘Mad Dog’ Martin Allen will be looking for a new job if this run continues.

I ‘ve a feeling this will be a close and nervy match. Both teams have been poor going forward of late, but neither defence has been that bad.

I'm taking a punt on No Goalscorer at 8/1 with Bet365. Slightly shorter odds than the 0-0 correct score, but you have the safety of an own goal being scored.

Best Bets

Hartlepool v Aldershot – Hartlepool to win (9/10 188BET)

Maidenhead v Salford – Salford to win (63/50 Marathon)

About Author

I first got the taste for betting when I was quite young, every year I would pick a horse for the Grand National and my Dad would go to the bookies and put my £1 each way bet on. As soon as I could get away with it I was in the bookies every Saturday afternoon searching the football coupons and putting on stupidly big accas. Now enjoy betting mainly singles or small multiples, usually sticking to the English leagues. I don't favour any particular market, but rarely watch a game without having small first scorer bet for a bit of fun. I've got 3 boys which take up most of my time, but luckily they enjoy going to watch football and days at the races. I'm a life long Grimsby Town fan, one of a few that has seen some ups as well as all the downs.
