Horse Racing – Former Ascot star to excel at Haydock on Saturday

IN-FORM racing expert Graeme Johnston (@GraemeJ_83) picks out his best bet from Saturday's action at Epsom.

2:30 Musselburgh | Scottish Sprint Cup | ITV4

The Scottish Sprint Cup is one of the biggest races in the Scottish calender and this looks hugely competitive. Lots of familiar names and plenty of handicap form is on offer and I'm taking my chances on one from an in-form yard.

Tim Easterby has his string going very well right now and I think he can claim a huge pot here with Copper Knight. He's won three times and has exceptional pace.

This will be fast and furious, and claiming an early position is vital at the track.

In a race full of early speed, he will be positioned to attack late on and I think he is a great each way-bet in what looks a cracking race.

4:00 Haydock | ITV4

A seven furlong Group and it's a good little race. Eight go to post but the race really does revolve around one horse only, in my opinion.

Dutch Connection is the class horse in the race, and even though on ratings he only had one pound in hand over his rivals, I feel that doesn't quite do his superiority justice.

A former winner of the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot, he's spent his career in good company and has won at Group 2 level in the past. He ran a great race in the Lockinge on his return and the way he travelled showed he will love this drop in trip.

He loves quicker ground, is tactically versatile and proving he is over his Newbury exertions he is the most likely winner of this by some way.

Best Bets

2:30 Musselburgh – Copper Knight each-way (10/1 Ladbrokes)

4:00 Haydock – Dutch Connection to win (2/1 Bet365)

I grew up watching Hearts games with my dad and playing football at every opportunity so betting on it was the logical next step! Football coupons became a Saturday ritual and it introduced me into the world of horse racing. I started watching it on a regular basis, and after Galileo's Derby win in 2001 I was hooked. I follow both flat and national hunt racing attending the northern meetings when possible.
