Twenty four runners, SIX of which are owned by JP McManus, this is not my favourite race of the festival and not a race I get heavily involved with. However there is a big price runner that I like and I'm just going to concentrate on him.
This race tends to be targeted by stables lesser lights and it can throw up some funny results. I tend to take form with a pinch of salt in this race and I'm not advising maximum stakes here by any means.
The one I will be backing however is Tagliatelle from the Gordon Elliott yard and I expect him to get competitive. Fourth in the Coral Cup last season he is the top weight here but he deserves to be.
Earlier in the season he was pitched in at Grade 1 level and though he fell short there he's taking a marked drop in class. He had a prep for this at Musselburgh where he came third to Cup Final giving away lumps of weight that day.
He's 7lb better off for a four and a half length beating and on top of that the stiffer track will really suit the selection. He needs every yard of the trip and I fully expect him to be involved in the finish here. I'm backing him each way but to small stakes.
