Tonga being given only four days break between playing Argentina and New Zealand is a blow to their hopes of reaching the quarter-finals and means there isn’t much to get excited about in this pool. New Zealand will win it with Argentina in second place.

Los Pumas will be talked up as dark horses and expect references to their 2007 efforts. They have named a relatively young pack, though. The front row and locks had an average age of 30 in that 2007 campaign but it is 26 this time. For the likes of Tomas Lavanini, Facundo Isa, Pablo Matera and Santiago Cordero this tournament might serve as a learning process with their best to be seen in 2019.

Looking ahead to potential knockout opponents, Argentina have won nine of their previous 14 games against France since 2002 compared to a record of three wins from 11 matches against Ireland in the same period.

Elsewhere, Juan Imhoff is 4/1 (Titanbet) to be Top Argentina Tryscorer. The Racing Metro winger’s record of 11 in 27 for Los Pumas compares favourably to Lucas Gonzalez Amorosino’s tally of seven in 44 or Horacio Agulla’s five in 60 and a hat-trick against South Africa in Durban last month means he should be full of confidence.
