NFL 2018/19 Preview: Rivers to rule the Passing markets

NFL nut Kyle Robins (@AhhYeahKyleYeah) runs the rule over the Passing markets ahead of the 2018/19 season.

NFL 2018/19 Preview: Passing

Last year’s Passing leader and MVP, Tom Brady, is the obvious choice here.

The man is the Benjamin Button of Football. However, there are a few other candidates who offer more value than Mr. Brady.

A quarterback I fancy to flourish this year is Phillip Rivers. He finished only second to Brady in passing yards last season and hasn't finished lower than fifth in these rankings since 2014. He's priced up sixth in the market at 12/1 (William Hill) and that offers plenty of value, especially with the each-way terms.

Rivers has the talent around him to help him towards this award. Kennan Allen is an elite wide out whilst Tyrell Williams and Travis Benjamin are reliable receivers. Rivers won't be short of options.

He may be inconsistent at times, lacking the pass completion of other elite quarterbacks, but he's not afraid to throw the ball and make plays. He finished just 62 yards short of Brady last year, on 25 less completions, which indicates his ability and willingness to look for the ball deep.

Alternative options

At bigger odds, Kirk Coursins (20/1 Paddy Power) and the returning Andrew Luck (35/1 Bet Stars) are capable and consistent enough throwers to be there or there abouts come the end of the season.

Moving onto the Passing touchdowns market, and it's our good friend Aaron Rodgers (8/1 SkyBet) who catches the eye. Two seasons short of throwing for 40 touchdowns and a fresh record breaking contract with the Packers, everything is lined up for Rodgers to flourish once again.

Working under the returning Offensive Coordinator, Joe Philbin, who Rodgrs thrived under for four years, everything looks rosy for the former Cal-man.

He produced his greatest season to date back in 2011, throwing 45 touchdowns to just six interceptions, and if Rodgers and Philbin can reignite that chemistry, he could have a monster year.

Best Bets

NFL 2018/19 – Most Passing Yards: Phillip Rivers (12/1 William Hill)

NFL 2018/19 – Most Passing Touchdowns: Aaron Rodgers (8/1 SkyBet)
