Tottenham return to the San Siro on Tuesday night, the scene of arguably one of the best ever individual performances from a player in their ranks.

Gareth Bale’s hat-trick was in vain eight years ago but while Spurs may not have players quite in the class of the Welshman these days, they possess plenty of attacking threat and are actually vying for favouritism in this encounter.

Having lost their last two games and with their new stadium still delayed, the mood at the club is hardly upbeat at the minute. Still, just three weeks ago they dismantled Manchester United at Old Trafford and they were being talked of as genuine title contenders.

I never thought that was realistic for a squad of Tottenham’s size and quality but they are certainly not a club in crisis. Victory here is well within their reach as Inter – as with so many Italian clubs aside from Juventus – are not the force they once were.

Inter themselves have a troublesome start to the season and have picked up just five points from four games. That said, I don’t think they have managed to gain the points their performances have merited.

Despite losing at home to Parma at the weekend, they won the shot count 28-8, so I certainly wouldn’t be rushing to back Tottenham at 9/5. Instead, I like the look of Both Teams To Score at 17/20 with William Hill.

I believe Tottenham are better going forward than they are at the back and am conscious of how entertaining their Champions League matches were last season. They had eight games in all, with both games against Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus seeing both sides netting.

I was also tempted to back Lucas Moura to find the net at 11/4, but Son could well get the nod here so will have to wait until the teams are announced before getting involved there.
