Horse Racing – Juvenile sprinter to shine in Newmarket opener

RACING expert Graeme Johnston (@GraemeJ_83) has been in the money recently and has taken a look at the best play for Saturday's action from Newmarket.

1:50 Newmarket | Godolphin Flying Start Zetland Stakes | ITV

The Godolphin Flying Start Zetland Stakes is for staying juveniles over a mile and two furlongs and this looks a strong renewal. Seven line-up with a mix of experienced young horses, with some stepping-up in class and I really like one that is making his first appearance outside of maiden company.

Norway (10/3 BetBright) is an exceptionally well bred sort who is bred to win a Derby and I fully expect him to be very competitive here. A full brother to Ruler Of The World and a half-brother to Duke Of Marmalade, he has a lot to live up to, but I suspect he will make up in to a high-class stayer himself.

He took a couple of attempts to get to grips with the game and on his last start – he won his maiden over a mile from the front where he looked stronger at the end of the race than at any other point.

He looks one of the more likely ones to handle the extreme trip for juveniles and in what the market makes to be a three-runner race, I think he is a real value selection here.

I grew up watching Hearts games with my dad and playing football at every opportunity so betting on it was the logical next step! Football coupons became a Saturday ritual and it introduced me into the world of horse racing. I started watching it on a regular basis, and after Galileo's Derby win in 2001 I was hooked. I follow both flat and national hunt racing attending the northern meetings when possible.
