EFL Trophy – Take the Tangerines to stain the Silk

FOOTBALL LEAGUE fan Ross Casey (@rosscasey24) picks out his best bets from Tuesday night's Football League Trophy card.

Southend v Cambridge | Tuesday 4th September 2018, 19:45

Southend suffered a 2-1 defeat last weekend with two of their players sent off after a late brawl. They will be looking to put things right on Tuesday night against League Two outfit Cambridge.

Interestingly, the last three Cambridge matches have ended with fewer than three goals and that is the case in their last three visits to Roots Hall too – with each of the last two ending in 0-0 draws.

Without Michael Kightly against his former side, Southend's attack is blunted and so I like the odds of Southend to win and Under 2.5 Goals at 16/5 with Ladbrokes.

Oldham v Barnsley | Tuesday 4th September 2018, 19:30

After an iffy start for Oldham back in League Two, they are beginning to show some form now with a four-game unbeaten streak.

The Latics come into this game on the back of a last-minute win against Crawley, which will give them a confidence boost, and I see their manager Frankie Bunn taking this game seriously without too many changes.

Barnsley have of course been in excellent form with a current third place in League One and just one loss in all competitions. However, I think that they will make a host of changes to their side and at 19/20 I would prefer to go with Oldham double chance on home soil, which is available at almost as good a price at 22/25 with Marathon.

Carlisle v Morecambe | Tuesday 4th September 2018, 19:45

Carlisle have lost just one of their last four games and that was against the much-fancied Mansfield away from home. They have only conceded twice in those four matches and look a good bet at 7/10 to defeat Morecambe, whose terrible form from last season has sadly continued.

You can increase those odds by backing Carlisle to win to nil here in my opinion. Morecambe have only scored four times in seven matches this season and can be shutout again by this Carlisle defence.

Back the home side to win to nil at 9/5 with Boylesports.

Macclesfield v Blackpool | Tuesday 4th September 2018, 19:45

Macclesfield are winless in their eight matches so far this season and have conceded 17 goals in the process.

You have to admit it has been a tough start back into the Football League ladder after six years away for the Silkmen.

Next up they face a Blackpool side that are undefeated in their four away games this season, so surely odds of 11/8 on an away win look too good to ignore!

Best Bets

Southend v Cambridge – Southend to win and Under 2.5 Goals (16/5 Ladbrokes)

Oldham v Barnsley – Oldham double chance (22/25 Marathon)

Carlisle v Morecambe – Carlisle to win to nil (9/5 Boylesports)

Macclesfield v Blackpool – Blackpool to win (11/8 William Hill)
