Europa League – Ross Casey’s four plays for the Last 16

0

ONE of our new writers Ross Casey (@RossCasey24) found another winner for us in midweek. Here’s his favourite fancies from Thursday’s Europa League action.

Lokomotiv Moscow v Atletico Madrid | Thursday 15th March 2018, 16:00 | BT Sport

It is safe to say that Atletico Madrid should see this tie through after a convincing 3-0 home win in the first leg. The lack of an away goal is a huge issue for Moscow and the last minute third from Koke last week was a real kick in the gut.

I don't see this one being high scoring – Madrid know how to protect a lead and with strikers Diego Costa and Kevin Gamiero not even making the trip, I will be backing under 2.5 goals with Mararthonbet at 69/100.

Dynamo Kiev v Lazio  | Thursday 15th March 2018, 18:00 | BT Sport

Lazio have lost momentum of late winning just three of their last 11 matches. They only salvaged a point last weekend in the dying seconds too in a disappointing 2-2 draw with Cagliari.

Dynamo Kiev on the other hand have not tasted defeat in their last nine home matches, so I am not really seeing why Lazio are built as favourites in this one. I am backing the home side to qualify with a best price of 93/100 with Marathonbet.

Zenit v Red Bull Leipzig  | Thursday 15th March 2018, 18:00 | BT Sport

Zenit suffered some poor domestic results of late and sit in fifth place now in the Russian League. That means the Europa League is likely their priority at this point with Champions League qualification for the eventual winners.

The Russian side turned their last tie around against Celtic at home and thanks to their late goal in Germany last week, they are in a half decent position to qualify from this one now.

Leipzig have won just five of their last 17 games in all competitions – including losing three of their last seven away games and for me, I believe that Zenit to qualify at 2/1 with bet365 represents very good value.

Red Bull Salzburg v Dortmund | Thursday 15th March 2018, 20:05 | BT Sport

Dortmund have improved under Peter Stoger that is for sure, but they still have weaknesses to their game. I expect Salzburg to score at least one against this Dortmund defence with their particularly shaky looking goalkeeper, Roman Burki, failing to instill confidence in the Dortmund defenders.

Stoger's side have kept just two clean sheets in their last 11 matches in all competitions, and with Sazburg losing just one of their 39 matches this season, I am amazed at their price to win this game.

I am going to play it somewhat safe though and back them to qualify with Unibet at 5/11. They have a 2-1 lead going into this game and have two crucial away goals already in the bag.
